Be a Showboat.

Be a Showboat.
By Stan Thomas.

Why do you need to be a Showboat when it comes to your career? If you are in sales, real estate, finance, writing a book, music, or acting or in business for yourself you need to put on a show for the public. If you create a product or service, you have to sell that product or service to stay in business. But how are you going to sell a book you wrote if no one has ever heard of you? What a person would do is write a book and shop it around as a manuscript trying to get a book deal.
The problem is that publishers don’t want to sign you because you are an unknown author. They can’t make money off of you because no one knows who you are. No one has ever heard of you before. So it is a real struggle for a first time author to be successful because of that reason. They are unknown and they have to get their name out there some kind of way.
People have to know about them and their work before they can be considered for a deal. You have to be on TV, the radio, internet and other media to grab attention and have a large following. This is called marketing where you strive to put your name and product in the minds of the public. Not only if you are trying to get a book deal are you going to have to market and promote yourself, but even if you publish yourself you have to market and sell yourself in order to sell your product. So whether you are in music, acting, real estate, insurance, or whatever, you have to move your biggest obstacle in the way of your success, nothing.

2 / 2
No one calling you and no one talking about you mean that you do not exist in that particular field. So what you have to do is to be a showman and tell the whole world about what it is that you do. You have to give away some free content in order to attract eyeballs and ears. Get on TV, radio, and internet and get your name in front of thousands of people and you would have a better chance at making it. If you want to sell one CD or download of your music you may have to let 50 people hear a song of yours.
One great example of showmanship is that of             Nicoli Tesla and Thomas Edison. Nikola Tesla was an inventor first and foremost. He didn't believe in politics or business. In his mind working on his inventions was more important than show boating around to businessman and politicians . He did not care about showing off his inventions to financiers or making sure that he gets recognized for his work.
As a result he was not as successfully well known as he should have been. Thomas Edison on the other hand was a businessman and a show man. Everything he did was about making sure that he gets recognized for the invention and that the public becomes highly aware of the invention. Thomas Edison was well-known and well connected in the business community at that time. He was also well-known in the science community as well.
And as a result Thomas Edison is the scientist that we all know about and only a few of us have ever heard of Nikola Tesla. If you study the history of these two great men you would realize that Nicoli Tesla was the better scientist of the two. Thomas Edison however was a better Showman than Nikola Tesla and it is Nikola Tesla who worked for Thomas Edison. Nikola Tesla did not care about fame and fortune and was more concerned with being a genius and thought that the rest will just take care of itself. But it did not.
As the person who is in charge of your own success you must do everything in your power to sell, market, and promote yourself and your products. The key take away from this story is that if you are in business for yourself and you have an excellent product, you need to let the world know about you and your product or service. Become a showboat and present yourself to the entire planet and let everyone talk about you and your product.
